WOW I got to see Cesar in person AND EVEN GOT TO SHAKE HIS HAND !!! The show was great and very worth the drive to Chicago. I wore the shirt I made to wear at the show and brought the Tote carry bags I had made for Cesar. They had a picture of Kie Kie jumping with her superman costume on with the caption "CESAR SAVED ME". I gave the tote bag to security at the shows break as it looked zero chance to give it to Cesar; much less to shake his hand. At the end of the show, he reached to people near the stage and started shaking their hands. As my seat was close by, I was able to walk into that section as he was finishing - I called his name, he turned and shook my hand - I SAID IT'S BEEN A REAL PLEASURE! NOT- THANKS FOR SAVING MY DOGOR I HOPE YOU GOT the Tote bag I made for you. Aghhh Even Mary was in shock this was happening and did not get a picture.
He started the show introducing his dog Junior and explained he hoped we did not mind he did not bring Daddy due to his age and how he felt Daddy told JR to go instead as it was cold in Illinois and he preferred to stayed home. Another point of humor was the reason Tiger Woods was in so much trouble is he broke the #1 rule. No touch, No talk, No eye contact. Although it was in humor-Cesar is famous for that rule when your meeting a new dog or a dog in training. Cesar displays his use of calm assertive energy and the value of the results is obvious. He also stresses dogs need exercise, then disciple and then the affection. Many problems are created in dogs and horses by using affection without the balance of disciple along with lack of exercise. It was so exciting to be there and I will write in more detail later about his lecture and the second half of the show, how he brought in people and their dogs with issues and helped them out - AMAZING TRANSFORMATIONS right in front of us!
5 things about the show 1. A lady who brought in her dog to a vet be put down - the vet told her about Cesar coming and it was arranged for her to bring the dog to the show - the crowd clapped for joy as Cesar explained he could not help her dog with food aggression issues in one session and invited her dog to come to his Dog Psychology Center in L.A. Cesar asked her 3 times - although she agreed - my heart just sank as she did not seem to appreciate the opportunity offered to her. 2. He brought out 3 dogs that were aggressive to other dogs - I realized my dog is what Cesar would call a red zone case. I have a long road ahead of me as I no longer have a pack to help me out. Even if my other two dogs were with me, I don't have the "read" to do what Cesar does but as Cesar would say- keep working at it. 3. He demonstrated how sometimes ignoring a problem dog can help. I got so much out of seeing that any tension within oneself is not ignoring and thus you won't be able to neutralize a situation. Staying in the "now" and letting go of the past is a lifelong quest and applies to all areas of life in general and will also help me with training horses. 4. You could not have tried to have made some situations so perfect - Cesar told a lady with her dog that kept tugging at it's leash - to drop the leash. She did so and the dog promptly picked up the leash and TROTTED OFF THE STAGE !!! 5. Interesting that people with horses need the same reminders... Cesar kept reminding the people on stage walking their dog to not look at the floor - and to not keep constant pressure on the leash, to have a bit of float instead. Haven't us riders heard that before !!
SAD ENDING NOTE - This story about Kie Kie ends very sadly. We made huge progress to the point of being under control even when high engery dogs walked by. That weekend it was planned to run her with my friends well mannered dogs and our horses but we had a incident where she got loose and attacked some chickens. Pehaps if I had a "pack" I could of helped her more but I did my best. It is really hard to write... as I feel I let her down. But that incident was a deal breaker for me and I knew I could no longer trust her and mantain positive training.
I believe all things happen for a reason and I appreciate Kie for how she improved my life.
2013 this time I GOT to chat with Cesar! Another story!
